CHRISTCHURCH

This area from Christchurch down to St Patricks Cathedral and westwards includes the street market at Thomas Street and the antiques area on Francis Street and Clanbrassil Street.

NASSAU STREET

The Nassau Street area is the ideal place for souvenir shopping or for buying quality Irish goods, and includes the Library shop at Trinity College.

GRAFTON STREET
STEPHEN'S GREEN

This area includes Grafton Street, Dublin's premier shopping area, Dawson Street with its excellent bookshops, and the Stephen's Green Centre.
The ideal area for upmarket fashionable shopping.

TEMPLE BAR

Best known as the culture and nightlife centre, it boasts a wide range of clothes shops, accessories, art and furniture shops.

GEORGES STREET

Georges Street is coming into its own again with its influence extending south to Camden Street. And there's the wonderful Castle Market area between Georges Street Arcade and Powerscourt Townhouse.

HENRY STREET
O'CONNELL STREET

This area includes Henry Street, O'Connell Street, Mary Street, North Earl Street and the Jervis Street and Ilac shopping centres.

Shopping hours are generally 9am to 6pm Monday to Saturday. Most main stores also open Sundays from 12 to 6pm. Almost all stores open for late shopping Thursday until 9pm. Credit cards such as Mastercard, Visa, AmEx are widely accepted. Unfortunately, sales tax or VAT runs at 20%, but for visitors from outside the EU, this is redeemable at the point of exit (airport office) so keep your receipts! shopping map

We have divided the city centre area into a number of localised shopping areas, marked above. All the areas are within easy reach of eachother on foot. Move the mouse over each area for a brief description and click for further details.

Mainstream shopping is centered on the two main pedestrianised shopping areas of Grafton Street/Stephen's Green on the southside centre and Henry Street on the northside centre. The two streets are just either side of the river, a few minutes apart, but are quite different. Grafton Street, positioned between Trinity College on the north end and St Stephen's Green on the south end, is the more upmarket shopping area with flagship stores such as Brown Thomas, the department store catering for a myriad of designer showcases, both foreign and local. Dublin's largest and most exclusive jewellers, Weirs, is also here, as well as the most popular of the famous Bewley's Cafes. The street leads to the Stephen's Green Shopping Centre and the Powerscourt Townhouse Shopping Centre is nearby with the excellent Castlemarket area to the rear. The main bookstores are just around the corner on Dawson Street.

Henry Street has department stores such as the extensive Arnotts, and an assortment of popular clothing and footwear stores. The ILAC shopping centre is here, the newer Jervis Street Shopping Centre, and the famous outdoor food market of Moore Street is always bursting with bargains. The nearby O'Connell Street, Dublin's main thoroughfare, is sadly a shadow of its former self, but is home to the excellent Clery's Department Store and Eason's Booksellers.
