Pubs and Bars

A visit to Dublin would not be complete without a visit to a pub, of which there are very many. Pub life is central to many Dubliners' cultural , musical and social activities. Pubs in the city centre are generally packed with people most nights, several of them provide good lunches at reasonable prices, and many will host either live music or DJs at the week-end. A converted 19th century building houses the World of Guinness exhibition, an audio-visual show on the history of Guinness, a model cooperage and transport museum, and of course a bar where you can sample the real thing.

The Old Jameson Distillery

How to get there: 30 minutes walk from Trinity College.
By bus: 67, 67A from Middle Abbey St. to Merchants Quay; 68, 69, 79 from Aston Quay to Merchants Quay.
The art of irish whiskey making is presented in this tour of the Old Jameson Distillery, which includes an audio-visual presentation, a guided tour of the old distillery, and a whiskey tasting session in the Jameson bar.
The new viewing tower, The Chimney, is nearby, offering panoramic views of Dublin from its observation deck.
Admission fee, family rates available.
